WorldLoop Activities | 2016 mid – year update

WorldLoop is proud to announce that during this first half of 2016, our partners have already collected and dismantled 397 tonnes of e-waste. Also, WorldLoop’s partners have shipped 4 containers:

  • Chilenter has shipped 1 container with CRTs as mentioned in our previous newsletter. Chilenter recently also shipped 1 container with mixed electronics, without our support. WorldLoop is particularly proud of this partner, as our efforts to empower local communities are being successful.
  • ASDI is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote sustainable development through social action in the field of environmental education and training. ASDI completed a first shipment late 2014, and is currently building on this experience to increase the collected volume. In September 2016, ASDI shipped 1 container filled with mixed electronics.
  • OK Plast Limited has shipped 1 container with industrial by-products to our partner, Umicore. Umicore is a global materials technology group. They focus on application areas where its expertise in materials science, chemistry and metallurgy makes a real difference. Umicore’s technical expertise, recycling and disposal services are invaluable to WorldLoop. They provide professional processing of complex and hazardous fractions from parts such as printed circuit boards, connectors, data cables, mobile phones and batteries. There is a high degree of material recovery, the proceeds of which flow back to recyclers in Africa.

This has been a great 2016 half year for WorldLoop and its partners. Let’s keep up the good work!
